Cindy Deal: Amber Schaefer strong contender for District 1 state rep

For the last few months, I’ve had the opportunity to work closely with District 1 state representative candidate Amber Schaefer. Her commitment to serving in the Legislature as a role model for her children and a voice for residents of Center Harbor and New Hampton has convinced me she is the right person for this important job. I have great respect for her can-do attitude and her decision to run rather than merely complain about disturbing decisions made in Concord.

Amber’s top priorities are shared by most people I know: better access to top-tier healthcare; excellent, properly funded public schools; and protection of the environment, which is critical to our local economy.

She has proved a quick study when it comes to researching these issues, and I know she will work collaboratively with fellow legislators to make progress and prevent further degradation. As a healthcare provider, she cares deeply about removing obstacles patients must clear to receive care — and obstacles driving providers to leave or never choose to settle in New Hampshire in the first place. As a mom, she wants her kids to get a great education. As an outdoor enthusiast, she wants to protect New Hampshire’s special places.

Perhaps because of her professional experience, Amber is a great listener, which I’ve observed as she has engaged with voters regardless of political affiliation. She will be a model of transparency who will meet with district residents on a regular basis not because she has to but because she wants to. In a state where public sentiment has been shown to be more often disregarded than heeded when it comes to legislative action, she will seek input and stand up for her constituents rather than attempt to impose an extreme agenda upon them.
