Bruce Jenket: Why is it fair for richest taxpayers to contribute more than others?

Leftists have a different sense of “fairness” than conservatives. A leftist contributor claimed the rich don’t pay their “fair share” of taxes. Really? Here is a link to the IRS tax data for 2022: tinyurl.com/54u5mdmp. There were 161 million tax returns filed that year for a total collected income tax of $2.1 trillion. The bottom 50% of taxpayers which is all with and AGI (Adjusted Gross Income) of less than $50,000 paid a total of $63.8 million or just 3% of the $2.1 trillion.

By comparison the über rich in this country making over $10 million per year paid $266 million or just over 12% of the $2.1 trillion. Only 34,640 taxpayers in this country are über rich. They make up 0.02% of all taxpayers. Yet, they pay four times as much in taxes than the bottom 50% of taxpayer. Where is the unfairness?

Literally, tens of millions of working age Americans are not working. Yet they are supported by our government. The leftist solution is tax everyone more. That is why Democrats in Congress are opposing the Trump Big Beautiful Bill (BBB). The Democrats' goal is to keep enough Americans dependent on the government as possible because the majority vote for Democrats.

Democrats falsely claim the BBB is a tax cut for the rich. Far from it. As the economy grows the rich will get richer. Thirty-six percent of that increase goes straight to taxes. Also, more jobs will be created so less Americans will be dependent on government subsidies.

Democrats, MSNBC, CNN, ABC, CBS, NBC, etc. all refuse to acknowledge that if the BBB fails to pass, the tax increase on someone making $60,000 per year will go up around $1,800 per year when the tax rates revert back to the 2017 levels. The middle-class workers will be hit the hardest. That’s what’s not fair.
