To The Daily Sun,

I have a friend in El Paso, Texas, and on a call to wish each other a merry Christmas, I happened to ask for a couple of facts about the border knowing it would be the truth. He stated, ”It was a sad mess, people actually freezing to death. Probably not hearing that up your way. I haven’t heard that on national news down here.”

I find that frightening. Politics aside, this issue belongs to all of us. We vote for these folks who supposedly represent us. That makes us somewhat responsible for having this issue ignored over the years and even after the bus load delivered at the cape and removed by National Guard, we may find that classic "Not in my backyard,“ but to have people freezing and ignored? Merry Christmas.

This friend states all the local schools, churches, any building with open spaces are full. Not sure if there is a blanket left in the area. “No lie,” he added. He and his wife live about 2 miles from the border and people walking the streets wrapped in blankets, ”sad and frightening.“

So, when watching the news, listening to the bickering about the border and thousands there, just a quick thought: some are freezing to death and I don’t think we’re hearing that, the worst of it. Merry Christmas, may God bless us.
