To The Daily Sun,

I’ve lived in Laconia for 18 years and I would like to express my personal opinion. When my family and I first moved here, I was 10 years old. During Bike Week, my older brother (11 turning 12 at the time) and I were not allowed anywhere near the Weirs, not even during daylight hours.

I think I can tell you why Motorcycle Week isn’t what it used to be: there's too many kids. I don’t mean during the day, I mean at night. I can see why parents bring their kids during the day. Check out all the bikes, have a bite to eat, go for a swim, ride the train, etc. But at night, that’s where we need to draw the line. Everyone I’ve talked to agrees that the rules for bike week after sundown should be “18+ to ride, 21+ to party.” There’s nothing wrong with bringing your kids to events where they can see and learn about different lifestyles, like bikers'. However, there is something wrong with having your children out at all hours of the night and expecting everyone to clean up their language and behavior and basically tiptoe around them.
