To The Daily Sun,Â
The Ashland Town Library and Trustees have been working on a plan to expand and renovate the library for the last few years. This year, Warrant Article 24 would add $25,000 to the library’s capital reserve fund, which is specifically for purchasing, building, or renovating a facility (including furnishing and equipment). We have heard from citizens the preference for the library to remain in the current location in the center of town, so the plans include an expansion of the current space as well as much-needed renovations.
Accessibility is one of the key issues to be addressed with this project. Improved parking, ramped entrance and an interior elevator are all part of the design. Plans also include expanded space for children and teens, and more seating and meeting space.
Libraries can be an economic as well as social and cultural asset. The Ashland Town Library serves as a safe and welcoming space for children and teens after school, offering homework help, technology, and snacks. Programs for adults provide enrichment and socialization.
To the voters of Ashland, please vote yes on Warrant Article 24 on March 10.
