To the editor,
First of all, let me say that I voted for the Road Agent’s pay raise, I feel he is doing a great job. I also feel that Town meeting is a sacred event that has deep roots and meaning to the Town Residents. I left the Town meeting disappointed with a few decisions that were made by the body of the Town, but that is the way democracy works, you take a vote, and you deal with the outcome. (Except in Gilmanton if your name is Abbott or Christiansen)
Our Selectmen had the Chairman of the School Board, Walter Mitchell, who is also the Town counsel review the warrant articles. I am sure he does not do this free of charge. Then when two of our selectmen did not like the outcome of the vote on this warrant article they asked that town council review it again, and I am sure he did not review it free of charge.
Mr. Abbott felt that the vote at town meeting was “tainted”, because he did not like the outcome? He did not think the voter’s knew what they where doing. Mr. Christensen wants this matter to go away, wants the people to move on — how can we move on when we cannot trust two of our Selectmen?
I would like to commend Selectwomen Ella Jo Regan for taking a stand and saying that the people voted and she was not comfortable going against the voter’s wishes.
