To the editor,
Thanks for the opportunity to briefly comment on recent writings and news.
Happy to see Rachel Normandin explain the process over at the Registrar of Deeds office — revenues will be less when there are less transfers of properties.
Place my name in the column for opposing special elections in the county because of costs. In the case of sheriff we have a good man who will have to decide if he wants the job permanently by seeking election this fall.
If I were a member of the county delegation my vote would be to “appoint” Deputy Registrar Barbara Luther and let the voters decide in the September primary and November election who they want. That truly is the honest and open way to fill the seat held by Rachel.
Our safety services personnel can be 5 or 10 minutes from disaster at any moment of the day year round.
It can be rescuing a snowmobile driver/passenger who may have consumed an adult beverage or more and found that “courage” to try to ride on water — or perhaps it is someone alluding law enforcement by crossing an unsafe lake with openings in the ice or leaping into a fast moving river — I have great concern for those who are there to save us or our loved ones every day.
PETA will not agree with me, but human life comes before animals, in my opinion; however, when the actions by safety services to rescue an animal to avoid the loss of life for the untrained human, those “doing the job” have once again placed the safety of us above their own. Thanks to Mr. Cagle and Mr. Higgins for explaining that in letters to this newspaper.
For those who agree with me that we have a security and sovereignty problem created by those who could push for comprehensive illegal immigration reform why would anyone of us think twice about voting for John McCain next Tuesday?
McCain stood with Ted Kennedy and said he was “proud” to have been part of the legislation which included amnesty for those millions here in this country illegally. I know many of you – Democrats and Republicans – forced the defeat of that bill. Why would any of you trust a candidate who speaks at the “Spanish Debate” recently causing the Associated Press to report: “Sen. John McCain has stood apart from most of his Republican rivals because he supported changing immigration laws and creating a path for citizenship for illegal immigrants”?
