To The Daily Sun,
As I expected to happen, Mr. Alan Vervaeke greatly misinterpreted my recent letter to this paper. I was not attacking the First Amendment by suggesting that the editor should be fired. I realize that I don’t have a constitutional right not to be offended by the opinions of others. As a business decision I would think that Ed Engler, who I consider to be an honorable man, may not want to employ an editor who often prepares a finished product that offends many of the readers and advertisers.
Since Mr. Vervaeke chose to direct his letter to me and my letter, I will address the rest of this letter to Mr. Vervaeke:
I am very happy that we have a First Amendment, especially since it allows people like you to expose your hatred, in every letter to the editor and editorial that you write, for our country, at least half of its citizens, and particularly Christians. I’m sure your hatred is not lost on the readers. It is the duty of Christians to pray for you, which probably infuriates you even more because the Word tells us to pray for our enemies. Ultimately you will one day have to answer to the God you deny. Christians will still pray for you because carrying around that much hatred in your heart will eventually wear you down. It takes a lot of negative energy to hate that much.
Incidentally, most Christians in New England prepare for the winter with enough firewood. We don’t need to hack away at wooden symbols of our faith. Such hatred.
