The second annual Marshmallow Man Sprint Triathlon will be held on Saturday, Aug. 2, at Opechee Park in Laconia. Pre-registration begins at 6:30 a.m. at Laconia Middle School and the race will begin at 8 a.m.
The 0.25 mile swim will take racers into Opechee Lake through Opechee Point and back. A 14 mile bike ride north on Route 106 into Meredith and back. And a 5k run along beautiful Shore Drive in Laconia. Have you been wanting to try a triathlon, but been too scared? This is the perfect sprint triathlon for "newbies," to the advanced.
During and following the race there will be free children's activities hosted by students from Gilford High School, balloon animals and face painting, and a barbecue for all to enjoy. Generous sponsors of the event include the Laconia Altrusa Club, the Laconia Police Department, the Gilford Police Department and Explorers, the Meredith Police Department, the Belmont Police Department and Explorers, the Tilton Police Department and Explorers, the Alton Police Department and Explorers, Laconia Restorative Justice, Gilford High School, Laconia Middle School, Body Covers, Lakes Region Triathlon Club, Bank of NH, Meredith Village Savings Bank, MC Cycle, MetroCast, Awakening Chiropractic, Crystal Rock Water, Hart's Slush, T&A Gunnery, Art Escape and Vista Foods.
All proceeds will benefit the Greater Lakes Child Advocacy Center. A local non-profit serving children between the ages of 2-18 living in Belknap County who have been suspected victims of child abuse. The center provides a safe, neutral environment for children, coordinates child abuse investigations, and offers community outreach and trainings and community referrals for children and families.
