To the editor,

The Laconia Middle School 8th grade (LHS Class of 2013) held graduation exercises on Wed., June 17 in the new gymnasium, followed by a dance in the new cafeteria. Never did any of us expect the facility to be as wonderful as it is. Spacious, bright, clean and comfortable, the new wing of LMS is simply fabulous. That facility instilled a sense of pride in these young people that, according to staff, was “unique to this class.”

Our thanks go to our elected officials for recognizing the need for appropriate and up-to-date facilities in which to educate the middle school youth of Laconia.

The after-graduation 8th grade dance was a huge undertaking for many people. Food and music abounded, which was donated or deeply discounted, and organized by a group of loving parents. Appreciation, recognition and thanks to Julie Philibotte for being the chair of this event, Katie Searle and Andrea and Jeff Morin for all their food and beverage supply/donation work, Shelly Batchelder and Mary Doherty for decorating, Helen Healey for the photography supplied by her husband, parent dance chaperones Carrie Pearson, Anne O’Brien, Bert Martin, Russ Horne, Willie & Linda Lutz, Andrea Morin, the monitoring by the two officers from the Laconia Police Department, Kurt and Joanne Chesley of Kurt’s Catering in Gilford, Mark Kimball from Laconia Country Club, beautiful centerpiece/flowers from Lakes Region Floral Studio’s, Hannaford Supermarket, Linda Lutz and Jackie Fountain for raising the funds to “fill the coffers,” teachers Amanda Stefanik and Bob Clay (who are fixtures at every dance to keep our kids safe), and school secretaries Sue Dore and Dawn Emond for all their time and follow through.

Finally, thanks to all the administration and staff at LMS. It was a night those kids will never forget. They were filled with pride, thanks to the countless hours of support you gave them throughout their middle school years, but especially on that evening. Your tireless dedication to our kids at LMS is appreciated by so many. Thank-you.

Sincerely,

Kim Weeks
