To the editor,

It's March and that perenniel turkey, SB 2, adoption of the official ballot, is before the voters again. It will be on the ballots for Winnisquam Regional School District towns and I urge its defeat on Tuesday, March 8.

This measure, found at RSA 40:13,waspassed by the legislatureseveral years agowith the goal toincrease participation in our town meetings and school district meetings.Experience has showna contrary influence. Towns that have adopted Senate Bill 2, have found it has made for less democratic meetings.

SB 2 replaces one town meetingwith two different meetings held on different days.Among other drawbacks, the SB 2 process brings about small interest group maneuvering and introduces confusion into the town meeting process that has served New England towns well for generations.

You may wish to read the article oncumulative experience with SB 2 that can be found on the New Hampshire Center for Public Policy Studies website. It advises against adoption of the official ballot system under SB 2.

Last month, the Winnisquam Regional School Board announced its opposition toSB 2. I urge you to support the Winnisquam School Board by voting against SB 2 at the polls this week.
