To the editor,

In the Daily Sun on August 30 was a letter regarding the use of the atomic bomb against Japan that I found very disturbing. I did not read the preceding exchanges, but it is obvious Mr. de Seve has a very warped since of history and priorities.

First, the prime role of our president, and the government is to protect and defend OUR citizens. Anything less is a treason and an impeachable offense. As General Patton was reported to have said, “…let the other poor bastards die for their country!”

For Mr. de Seve to argue that it was better for 40-46,000 of our soldiers to die to save the lives of even one Japanese citizen is just plain sick. And I don’t say this as a racist because myNeisi relatives fought valiantly in World War II with the 442nd.

I say this as a patriot, a veteran of 300 combat missions in Vietnam, and the father of two sons who flew combat in Kosovo and the Gulf. We all volunteered to risk our lives for the United States, but not to be served up as fodder if another method, such asincenidaries, clusters bombs, or even a nuclear weapon, was a betterchoice regardless of casualties on the opposing side.

I am proud to have kept our country safe for people like Mr. de Seve, but his words are still disgusting.
