To The Daily Sun,
This year, during October 1-7, we will recognize Mental Illness Awareness Week, a time to come together to fight stigma, provide support, educate the public and advocate for equal care.
Mental illness is a medical condition, but it is often surrounded by stigma or stereotypes that prevent people from getting the help they need. One in five adults experiences a mental illness in any given year. Approximately half of all lifetime cases of mental illness begin by the age of 14. Unfortunately, long delays-sometimes decades-often occur between the time symptoms first appear and when people get help. Early identification and treatment are important.
If you or a loved one seems to be struggling and need some type of support, CornerBridge, a wellness and recovery center for those who have or is at risk of a mental illness and over the age of 18, is available. CornerBridge is all peers who deal with everyday challenges. CornerBridge provides support by one-on-one peer support, many different group topics. If you know someone who could use this, please stop by and visit at 328 Union Avenue, Laconia or contact me for more information at 528-7742 or email at: colleen.cornerbridge@metrocast.net. Also, check out our website for further information at: www.nhcornerbridge.info.
Remember; take the Stigma Free Pledge to help yourself, your family, friends and your community.
