To the Daily Sun,
As a first-time candidate for Laconia City Council, I not only have to be working hard to win the trust of my community to get elected, I also have to be working hard to ensure that I will be fully prepared to assume the role of a city councilor. In addition to regularly attending City Council meetings, I have been actively meeting with several of the department heads throughout our great city.
I have met with City Manager Myers, Police Chief Canfield, Fire Chief Erickson, City Planner Trefethen, Public Works Director Anderson, former City Clerk Reynolds, and former mayors and councilors. I have also spoken to teachers and administrators within the district, along with many businesses and organizations around the city, with many more to come.
I have listened with serious interest about what they perceive to be the greatest challenges we face together as a community. More importantly, I have seen what makes Laconia the great city that it is — the people who live, work and play here. There is no question that there is still a great deal I need to learn and a great many more people I need to meet and speak with.
I encourage anyone in Ward 6 who would like to have a better understanding about my qualifications to attend the Candidate Meet and Greet being held at the Leavitt Park Clubhouse on Oct. 30 at 6:30 p.m. If you are unable to attend, but would still like learn more about what I can bring to the council, I would encourage you to contact me directly at reubenbassett@gmail.com. Also, feel free to chat with me and my family as we take our regular walks around the neighborhood.
If elected, I can assure you that no one will work harder or be more dedicated to the needs of all residents of Ward 6. I would appreciate your consideration and vote on Nov. 7.
