Beginning in February, The Laconia Daily Sun will shift to a three-day print schedule during the winter months, publishing on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays.

This is a difficult, but thoughtful, decision, made in response to seasonal advertising patterns and the broader economic pressures facing local newspapers. Our goal is to manage costs responsibly while preserving what matters most: strong local journalism and comprehensive community coverage.

What is important for readers to understand is what is not changing.

We will continue to cover local news fully and aggressively. Community events, announcements, special sections, obituaries, and all advertising will continue to be published. Nothing is being eliminated. Instead, we will be packing everything to which readers are accustomed into three larger, more complete print editions each week.

On non-print days, we will post breaking news, timely announcements, and obituaries on our website, so important information continues to reach the community without delay.

This is intended as a winter adjustment for February and March. We hope to return to five-day publication as soon as advertising sales rebound. While we will do everything we can to grow revenue, the timing of a return depends largely on the health of the economy and the realities of today’s local newspaper business.

The Daily Sun has served this community for over 25 years by adapting carefully and responsibly to change. This step reflects that same commitment — to sustainability, to our readers, and to the essential role of local journalism in the Lakes Region.
