LACONIA — Two people were arrested and charged with criminal trespass after being found on the rooftop of a downtown building around 1 a.m. on the morning of Dec. 8.

Responding to a 1:07 a.m. call of people on top of the Colonial Theatre, police found Hunter Decell, 21, and Robert York, 42, had used a fire escape behind the antiques store to get onto the roof, according to Chief Matt Canfield. Canfield was unable to pinpoint exactly where on the rooftop they were found, but the fire escape provides access to the area near the antiques store.

The two did not tell officers why they were on the roof, Canfield said, but he speculated they could have been in search of an isolated place to sleep. According to dispatch logs, Decell and York are experiencing homelessness.

Two other people police encountered while responding to the call were arrested on outstanding warrants.
