The first Sandwich Fair in 1886 was a market day for farmers to trade and sell cattle. The following year, a band and baby beauty contest were added, and the event attracted more than 3,000 people. This year the fair drew a paid attendance estimated at 37,000, said Dan Peaslee, president of the Sandwich Fair Association. That, he added, "is a very, very good year," and doesn't even include kids under 12, who get in free.
