Sandwich's voting results from Tuesday confirm expectations that the initiative for the Inter-Lakes School District to adopt the official ballot form of government — commonly referred to as SB-2 — would fail. Sandwich's results were not available prior to the deadline for yesterday's paper, but results from the other district towns of Meredith and Center Harbor indicated that the initiative would fail to receive the 60-percent majority required for passage.

The proposal was unpopular in Sandwich, where 160 voted for it and 302 voted against it.

Added to ballots cast in the other two Inter-Lakes towns, a total of 1,661 votes were counted on the question. With that number, 997 "yes" votes would have been required, but only 821 "yes" votes were tallied in the district. When all the dust had settled, SB-2 only saw support from 49.4-percent of the voters. Meredith was the only Inter-Lakes town in which a majority — 57.1-percent — favored the secret ballot.
