CONCORD — Safe Boaters of New Hampshire is proposing a bill that will protect boaters who are caught on the water at night during stormy weather. The measure would amend the boating laws to prohibit local or state law enforcement from forcing boaters off public docks after hours when the weather turns bad.
A number of publicly owned docks in New Hampshire ban overnight docking, but Safe Boaters of New Hampshire believes exceptions to those bans should be made during inclement weather and the cases of medical emergencies.
Republican State Representative John Hikel, Hillsborough County District 7, has filed the bill on behalf of boaters across the state as a way to avoid preventable tragedies.
