LACONIA — Elisa Guerriero, principal of Pleasant Street School, will leave her position at the end of the school year.

Guerriero has been leading Pleasant Street School since the 2022-23 school year.

In a letter sent to Superintendent Bob Champlin on Friday, Guerriero wrote it was with a “heavy heart” she submitted her resignation.

“This decision was not made lightly, as my time at Pleasant Street School has been deeply rewarding and meaningful. However, after careful consideration, I have decided to step down to focus on personal matters that require my full attention at this time,” Guerriero wrote.

She also wrote she was grateful for the staff, parents and students with whom she works.

Champlin shared her letter with members of the school board, noting her resignation comes halfway through the school year, which provides the district with time to advertise and follow a considered hiring process.

“I am grateful to Principal Guerriero for her commitment to coming in every day from now until the end of the school year to support and supervise our students and staff,” Champlin wrote to board members, adding he will soon offer a hiring timeline for the board to consider. “My focus is on helping PSS have a strong second half of the school year while we help hire a new principal in Laconia,” he wrote.

Guerriero’s resignation will become effective on June 30.
