Michael Gedman named Muskrats coach

LACONIA — The Winnipesaukee Muskrats of the New England Collegiate Baseball League has named Framingham State College Coach Michael Gedman as coach for the summer season.

Gedman once played in the league and is the son Rich Gedman, a two-time all-star for the Boston Red Sox and now the hitting coach for the Triple-A Pawtucket Red Sox.

Michael Gedman has coached the Framingham State Rams of the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference for the past five seasons.

Since being named as head coach in January 2014, his teams have led the conference in home runs and stolen bases. Last season, the Rams advanced to the championship of the conference's tournament.

He played collegiate ball at Le Moyne College before transferring to the University of Massachusetts at Amherst, where he earned a degree in history.

He played summer ball for the Sanford Mainers, in the same league as the Muskrats.

"I am very grateful for this opportunity to manage the Muskrats,” Gedman said.

“Ten years ago, I experienced the NECBL as a player and I have always wanted to come back. I am a New Englander, born and raised. I look forward to providing a winning atmosphere with the Muskrats. But more importantly, making a positive impact in the community."

The Muskrats open the 2018 season on Tuesday, June 5, at Robbie Mills Field in Laconia at 6:05 p.m. against in-state rival, Keene Swamp Bats.
