GILMANTON — Annual Memorial Day Sunday Service at the Smith Meeting House begins at 10:30 a.m. Memorial Day exercises sponsored by the Ellis-Geddes-Leavitt American Legion Post 102 will follow at noon.
MONDAY, MAY 28
ALTON — Parade begins at 10 a.m. at Monument Square and will proceed to the cemetery and back.
BELMONT — The traditional parade sponsored by Charles Kilborn American Legion Post 58 will begin at 1 p.m.
LACONIA — The traditional parade up Main Street to Veterans Park will form on Garfield Street and leave at 10 a.m. Marchers will pause on the Main Street bridge over the Winnipesaukee River to throw a wreath on the waters in honor of American servicemen and women who have died at sea and then proceed to the park for a 10:30 ceremony. Parade is being organized by Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1670 and lunch at the post (143 Court Street) will follow.
LACONIA — Blue Star Mothers of New Hampshire will host a Memorial Day ceremony at 6 p.m. Veterans Park. Fr. Adrien Longchamps, pastor of Sacred Heart Church, blesses American flags bearing the names of N.H.’s fallen soldiers from the current war, followed by reading of Gold Star Mothers poem and announcement of soldiers names. Open to the public.
MEREDITH — The traditional ceremony at Oakland Cemetery on Meredith Center Road will begin at 8 a.m. and the same at Meredith Village Cemetery will follow at 9 a.m. The traditional parade will form up at American Legion Post 33 on Plymouth Street at 9:30 and proceed to the library for a 10 a.m. ceremony. Marchers will then continue to Swazey Cemetery on Lang Street (10:15 a.m.), the town docks (10:30 a.m.) and the POW/MIA Memorial at Hesky Park (10:45 a.m.)
NEW HAMPSHIRE VETERAN'S HOME (Tilton) — Service begins at 11 a.m. Address will be delivered by State Senator Joe Kenney (U.S. Marine Corp.) of Wakefield.
