BELMONT — Police arrested 23-year-old transient Caleb Young after he fled from a traffic stop and crashed into a utility pole.
Police say an officer on evening patrol attempted to stop Young for a defective equipment violation on Oct. 17, but the man took off while the officer was turning around on Union Road. As he fled, Young lost control of his vehicle, which struck a utility pole and brought down the power lines.
Belmont Fire Department medics treated Young for a minor head injury, and police arrested him for disobeying a police officer and driving after suspension, after learning that his license had been suspended.
Police learned that there were several other arrest warrants out for Young from the Laconia Police Department and Belknap County Sheriff’s Office.
Officers took Young to the Belknap County Department of Corrections jail, where he was held in lieu of cash bail to await arraignment on the open arrest warrants.
Police shut down the roadway while power crews restrung the power lines on a new pole.
