BELMONT — The Town of Belmont is looking for leaders and public servants to join the ranks to fill one of their many available jobs.

Leaders in the fire and police departments want to hire highly-qualified candidates for a spot on their respective rosters. The fire department is looking for a new firefighter/paramedic, and the police department is seeking full-time officers interested in protecting and serving the public.

“I need thinkers. I need compassion. I need empathy,” said Capt. Evan Boulanger about the kind of candidates the police department would hire. “We’re a small town. Our people have to kind of do it all. It's a tough ask.”

It’s important applicants be interested in continuing the partnership between the public and the department.

Policing has changed during Boulanger’s 18 years in the industry. Going from a “warrior mindset to a guardian mindset” is just one of the shifts, especially as there are more and more calls related to mental health and substance misuse. Oftentimes, police officers are the first to respond in those situations.

“We are really called to a lot of different calls that weren't in our purview before,” Boulanger said.

The Belmont Public Library is seeking a director. Eileen Gilbert resigned in November following more than 10 years of service.

Library Trustees Vice Chair Tasha John is currently accepting applications via email at trusteetasha25@gmail.com. Interested applicants should be highly-organized, community-focused book lovers. A master’s of library science degree is preferred, as well as experience as a manager.

And the Department of Public Works is seeking a seasonal plow truck driver, especially as snow flurries continue. The right candidate will have prior experience and understand the changing daily needs of the job.
