GILFORD — A recount of votes coast on September 11 yesterday confirmed the warrant article calling for the lease/pruchase of a $441,820 fire truck failed to attract the 60-percent majority vote needed for passage under N.H. law.

The final vote was recorded as 1,098 in favor and 743 against, a 59.4-percent majority.

Fire Engineer Don Spear and Budget Committee member Sue Greene represented the ayes and nays and neither voiced any concerns about rulings made by Moderator Sandra McGonagle regarding the 15 ballots she determined were not exactly clear.
