The candidate filing period for many local towns opened last week and will close Friday.

Gilford, Belmont and Meredith are all currently accepting declarations of candidacy for residents who wish to serve their town in an official capacity. The filing period closes at 5 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 2.

Voters will select the winning candidates during Town Meeting.

In Gilford, positions up for election include moderator, a two-year term; selectboard member, for a three-year term; trustee of the trust funds (three years); two library trustee positions (three years each); cemetery trustee (three years); three budget committee members (three years each); supervisor of the checklist (six years); and fire engineer (three years).

Gilford will vote during town elections on Tuesday, March 12.

In Meredith, there are two three-year seats on the selectboard open for election. Also open are positions for moderator (two years); supervisor of the checklist (six years); trustee of the trust funds (three years); and four library trustee positions, one each for terms of one, two, three and four years.

Meredith’s town election will be held on Tuesday, March 12.

Positions open in Belmont include two positions, three years each, on the selectboard; town clerk/tax collector (one year); six total seats on the budget committee, four for three years and two for two years; moderator (two years); trustee of trust funds (three years); two positions as library trustee (three years each); cemetery trustee (three years); two seats on the planning board (three years each); two seats on the zoning board (three years each); and supervisor of the checklist (six years).

Belmont voters will head to the polls on Tuesday, March 12.
