CONCORD — The Executive Council voted 3-2 Wednesday morning to approve a purchase & sale agreement for the Laconia State School property with Legacy Laconia, LLC.
Councilor Joe Kenney, who represents Laconia, along with Cinde Warmington of District 2 and Janet Stevens of District 3 voted in favor, with Theodore Gatsas of District 4 and David Wheeler of District 5 in dissent.
Warmington said during the meeting that she was glad for the extra few weeks to iron things out. Stevens said there had been plenty of eyes on the sale agreement.
Wheeler said his dissent was not because he was against the sale, but because he wanted more time for questions to be answered. Gatsas was more firmly against the purchase, and emphasized that the council had not seen sufficient financial information to be confident that the buyer was financially equipped.
Legacy Laconia's proposal for the property includes nearly 2,000 units of housing on the property that was initially developed by the state as a residential school for adults and children with developmental disabilities, and later used as a state prison.

The good news may be that this buyer may live up to her reputation and do nothing with the property, which would be better than the current proposal.[thumbdown]
