ASHLAND — An Ashland driver was killed in a two-car accident on Interstate 93 on Monday morning. The preliminary investigation found he lost control of his car and hit a box truck, before hitting a rock in the median, according to a media release.
Terrence McSally, 64, of Ashland, died at Speare Memorial Hospital in Plymouth, following the accident that took place just after 7 a.m. on May 25.
State Police are investigating the crash, and wrote in the release troopers in Troop F barracks responded to the crash on I-93 North, near mile marker 77.2, on Monday. Troopers found an SUV in the median, and the box truck was stopped on the shoulder.
The investigation found McSally was driving a black 2011 Chevrolet Traverse in the left lane of the interstate, when his SUV hit rumble strips. McSally seems to have overcorrected to the right, striking the box truck in the right lane, driven by Matthew Petz, 35, of Plymouth.
McSally then lost control of the car, and went off the road into the median, before hitting a rock, according to the State Police report.
The high-speed lane of I-93 was closed for about two hours as troopers investigated, and as the vehicles were removed, according to Public Information Officer Tyler Dumont.
State Police Troop F was assisted by additional troopers from Troop G and State Police headquarters. Also responding were the Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Unit, Ashland Fire Department and Plymouth Police Department.
Petz was not hurt in the crash, and Dumont said the commercial truck he was driving had cosmetic damage to the fuel tank, and was driven away from the accident scene. Dumont did not provide information about whether any charges are expected.
“The investigation is ongoing,” Dumont wrote in an email on Tuesday.
Anyone with information that could help the investigation is asked to contact Trooper John Collishaw at 603-846-3333, or John.C.Collishaw@dos.nh.gov.
