LACONIA — Laconia Police promoted a group of experienced law enforcement officers, each with more than a decade under their belt, including Michelle Cardinal, the first female lieutenant in the department’s history.

At the ceremony on Tuesday, Cardinal was promoted from patrol sergeant to lieutenant, and will be working in Support Services for the Laconia Police Department.

“This is a permanent mark in the department’s history, and it is great to promote the first female in our department ever,” said Chief Matt Canfield. “It is a happy and memorable time in the department.”

The department promoted Chris Noyes from lieutenant to captain, and he will now run the Operations Division.

Bob Cameron and Rich Carlson were both promoted from their patrol sergeant positions to lieutenant, and will be working under Noyes in the Operations Division.

Jon Milne and Austin Schilling were each promoted from officer to patrol sergeant, as well.

Canfield was happy to be able to promote a group of officers who have been with Laconia Police for many years.

“The most junior person was a sergeant, at 12 years,” Canfield said. “They all have significant experience and longevity.”
