A 28-year-old Bristol woman has been charged with attempting to pay personal bills with funds belonging to her Laconia employer. Claudia Cardasis-Meringolo was arrested on Friday and charged with "attempted theft by unauthorized taking".
Cardasis-Meringolo was released on $5,000 personal recognizance bail and is to due to be arraigned in Laconia District Court on Feb. 22.
According to a police report, Cardasis-Meringolo is alleged to have used her position at Central New Hampshire Employment Services to try and pay personal credit card, telephone and electricity bills totaling more than $3,000. An investigation revealed, police say, the woman made several attempts to transfer funds out of her employer's bank account for her own gain.
