Belmont Town Clerk and Tax Collector Cynthia DeRoy processed her first motor vehicle “e-Registration” this week without a glitch. She is anxious to have every one in town use “E-REG” when it’s time to renew their car, truck, motorcycle, or trailer registration. It also works for handicapped, moose, vanity, antique and all of the different kinds of specialty vehicles.

DeRoy says the process of renewing plates is really quite simple. Leaving the house is not required.

The first step involves logging onto the Town of Belmont web site — www.belmontnh.org. Then, click on the “E-REG” button on the right hand side of the screen. It’s the button with a picture of a moose.

A new screen comes up. It asks for the license plate number, the type of plate, the last four numbers of the vehicle’s VIN number and the e-mail address of the person to whom the vehicle is registered.

When that information is entered, a click on the indicated button brings up the payment page. Credit and debit cards are accepted for payment.

The survey form that pops up at the end of the process provides an opportunity to comment on the “E-REG” experience.

Once the on-line process has been completed, an e-mail is sent to the Town Clerk’s Office automatically. The clerk’s office processes the registration application and mails the new registration and license place date stickers to the address on the vehicle registration.

There are, of course, vehicle registrations that can’t be completed on line. New vehicle registrations still require a trip to town hall. The same is true for registrations that involve an address change.

The “E-REG” pages on the town web site contain simple, easy to follow instructions, and there is a comprehensive “Frequently Asked Questions” section as well.

The Town Clerk’s office personnel will also be happy to answer questions. The telephone number there is 603-267-8302.
