Overcast weather didn’t serve as a deterrent to getting out the vote, and Belmont voters were turning out indeed Tuesday morning at Belmont High School for the state Primary Election. As of 11 a.m., 403 of 4,523 registered voters had cast a ballot, with more streaming in. That number continued to climb throughout the day. Town Clerk Jennifer Cashman, Moderator Al Nix, Selectboard Chair Ruth Mooney, and Selectboard members Travis O’Hara, Sharon Ciampi and Mark Lewandoski all staffed the polls, working on processing absentee ballots and handing out “I Voted” stickers. “We are here to oversee the election process and help moderate any potential disputes,” O’Hara said at 1:30 p.m. “As of right now, [voter turnout] is at 712. We could potentially break 1,400 [votes] depending on the 3 p.m. rush. I believe it’s turning out to fall where it normally does during midterms.” Outside the building, stumpers held signs, greeting voters as they entered the polling station.
