CONCORD — Gerard Michael Healey, 56, of Brentwood, was indicted on Nov. 17, by the Belknap County Grand Jury, on three felony charges of theft totallng over $200,000, according to a release from the state Attorney General's Office.
The thefts took place in Meredith and other locations throughout the county, according to court documents.Â
One charge alleges Healey stole over $1,500 in one scheme by soliciting and receiving deposits from eight customers who contracted with him to perform home renovation projects. Rather than use the money for those projects, Healey is alleged to have used the customers’ money for unauthorized purposes unrelated to their homes.
Another charge alleges Healey stole over $1,500 from a customer, after promising to pay a third party, and kept the money for himself.
The last charge alleges Healey stole over $1,500 from two other customers, after promising to make a payment to a third party, and kept that money as well.
The indictments stem from an investigation which led to 19 misdemeanor counts against Healey, alleging he collected customer deposits in violation of New Hampshire’s Consumer Protection Act. In total, Healey is accused of stealing just under $209,000, according to the Attorney General's Office.Â
Healey is scheduled to be arraigned on the charges in Belknap County Superior Court at 9 a.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 19. An indictment is not an indication of guilt. Rather, it is a finding by a grand jury that enough evidence of a potential crime exists to warrant bringing a case to trial. Healey is presumed innocent unless or until proven guilty.
This matter was investigated by Investigator Frederick Lulka of the Department of Justice’s Consumer Protection and Antitrust Bureau. The case is being prosecuted by Assistant Attorneys General JR Davis and Zachary Frish, also of the Consumer Protection and Antitrust Bureau.
