Why Is Joy Behar Absent From ‘The View’? All the Details

Joy Behar made a big announcement on last Tuesday’s (May 26) edition of the Behind the Table podcast: She would be taking an extended hiatus from The View starting this week.

After discussing various parts of the day’s episode with executive producer Brian Teta, he noted, “This is your last podcast for a little while because next week, you’re not going to be here. Can we talk about that?”

“Oh, well, they made me bank the weekend shows,” Behar confirmed.

“You’re going to be on the weekend shows even though you’re not here,” Teta then said.

“You better tell people why I’m not here,” she then added.

“Well, we’re talking about it right now. This is a podcast that goes out to a lot of people,” Teta agreed.

“Well, you need a chyron, ‘Joy is gone, but this is on tape,'” she insisted.

“We will make sure they understand,” Teta promised. “They know we’re not really there at 9 o’clock in the morning on a Saturday.”

Behar explained the reason for her absence, saying, “I fly to Paris this week, and then I go take the tunnel to London after a week. Then I’ll be in London the second week doing my play, My First Ex-Husband, at the Boulevard Theater in the West End.” Behar then revealed her costars for the shows will be Jackie Hoffman and two British actors. “Doesn’t that sound like fun?” She also shared that the week in Paris will be spent doing “playwriting in various cafes,” along with visiting several art exhibits.

“We’re going to have various folks filling in for you,” Teta then explained. When prompted by Behar to reveal who, he said, “Week one, I’m going to say … Well, we’ve already told people that Sheryl Underwood is coming… for two days, and then next week, we’re going to have Kara Swisher, who’s very funny and very smart. She’ll be great… and Whoopi is going to be here on Fridays… I don’t think she knows that [yet]. I’ll let her know.”

The two then confirmed that Behar would be on hand throughout the rest of this week before her two-week hiatus, which meant her first true day of absence would be this Tuesday (June 2).
