Trying Season 5 is officially on the way at Apple TV as the streamer unveils the premiere date and a first look at the heartwarming comedy’s long-awaited return. The British import that was renewed in 2025 wrapped filming later that year, in November.

Now, the latest update offers a glimpse at the latest chapter of Nikki (Esther Smith) and Jason’s (Rafe Spall) story as they continue to navigate parenthood. In addition to the premiere date and first-look photos, Apple has revealed plenty of other exciting details about the upcoming chapter, including casting news and beyond. When will Trying Season 5 premiere?

Trying Season 5 will officially premiere on Apple TV on Wednesday, July 8, followed by one episode a week through Wednesday, August 26, when the finale will drop. Season 5 of Trying features eight all-new episodes for viewers to dig into. Before a premiere was announced, Apple had teased the wrap of Season 5 production in November 2025, “Your favorite feel good couple is wrapped on Season 5,” a social media post teased, featuring an image of Smith and Spall on set. 

Who will star in Trying Season 5?

As mentioned above, Smith and Spall will reprise their roles as Nikki and Jason, with Charlotte Riley returning as Kat, Scarlett Rayner as Princess, Cooper Turner as Tyler, Darren Boyd as Scott, and Sian Brooke as Karen. Additional casting for the season includes Celia Imrie, Phil Davis, Gbemisola Ikumelo, and Colin Morgan. It was previously announced by Deadline that Danielle Vitalis and Leah Brotherhead would also be a part of the ensemble.

What will Trying Season 5 be about?

For those less acquainted with the series, Trying follows a couple, Nikki and Jason, who struggled to have children and decided to explore adoption. Ultimately, they adopted Princess and Tyler, a sister and brother who took a liking to them. Season 4 picked up five years post-adoption, offering fans a glimpse at their family dynamic well after their introductions. But, as Season 5’s logline teases, Nikki and Jason will be dealing with the consequences of Princess and Tyler’s biological mother, Kat (Riley), turning up at their doorstep, and the whirlwind of chaos she brings into their settled family life.

Trying is created, written, and executive produced by Andy Wolton. Meanwhile, Josh Cole, Sam Pinell, and Chris Susman also executive produce the series, which is produced for television by BBC Studios.
