Round-up: Laconia girls earn 2nd win of season over Berlin

 

GIRLS’ SOCCER

Laconia 2, Berlin 1

Laconia evened its season record at 2-2-1 with a 2-1 victory over Berlin in a game played at the Robbie Mills Field on Tuesday. Laconia, which was 0-15-1 last year, has proven to be a competitive team this year  with both of its wins over Berlin after having played a scoreless tie at Inter-Lakes in the first game of the season. The Sachems' next game will be at Stevens High School in Claremont at 4 p.m. Friday. Next Tuesday they host Gilford at 4 p.m.

Inter-Lakes 4, Newport 1

The Lakers won their first game of the season on Tuesday, behind the scoring of Makenna Edgar, who had two goals, and the defensive play of Taylor Ambrose, who made seven saves.

Inter-Lakes is now 1-2-1; Newport 1-5.

Raymond 4, Gilford 0

Undefeated Raymond scored four goals on crosses into the box, and Anna Harmon netted three of those four for the Rams on Sept. 12.

Aria Stephan played a strong game for the Golden Eagles on defense.

“Raymond is a very good and fast team. They move the ball extremely well and are able to find the open man making runs very consistently,” said Gilford Coach Thomas Raymond.

Gilford is 2-3; Raymond 5-0.

Belmont 3, Somersworth 0

Belmont standouts in the Sept. 12 match included Emma Cochran (6 saves, assist), Sana Syed (defense), Elizabeth Fleming (defense), Kaitlynn Delisle (defense). The Raiders' goals came from Makenzie Donovan, Julianna Estremera and Katie Gagnon.

The Raiders took a 1-0 lead into halftime thanks to a goal in the 29th minute from Donovan. Estremera made it 2-0 in the 46th minute and Gagnon finished the scoring in 73rd minute after she got on the end of long ball from Cochran, who was outstanding in net and added to the offense.

Belmont is now 2-0-2; Somersworth 0-6.

BOYS’ SOCCER

Laconia 1, Bishop Brady 0, OT

Top players for the Sachems in the Sept. 12 match were Thomas Turpin (goal), Kaleb Shumway (assist), and goalie Cam Souda (6 saves)

The Sachems claimed the win at home when Turpin scored the game’s only goal five minutes into the first overtime. Shumway notched the assist after scoring three times in Laconia’s 3-0 win on Monday.

“We started off really slow today, but luckily for us we were able to overcome the sluggish start. Love that our senior captain was able to score the game-winner.” said Laconia’s Joey DiTommaso.

Laconia is now 3-2, Bishop Brady 0-3

Gilford 9, Franklin 0

“Gilford played well controlling possession in the midfield. We will use this game as a learning opportunity.” said Franklin’s Kevin Vangorden about the Sept. 12 match.

Gilford is now 5-0; Franklin 0-4

Belmont 2, Somersworth 2

Key players for Belmont on Sept. 12 were Griffin Embree (2 goals), Nate Sottak (forward), River Mathieu (midfield), Colby Brown (midfield). 

Trailing 1-0 in the second half, Embree put his head on the ball and into the net to tie the game with 90 seconds to play. Somersworth scored on a penalty kick 20 seconds later, but Embree struck again to keep his team alive, this time with 20 seconds left in the game. The teams battled through two overtime periods but could not produce a winner.

“The soccer gods were shining down on us today,” said Belmont’s Mike Foley.

Belmont is now 3-1-1; Somersworth 3-2-1

VOLLEYBALL

Inter-Lakes 3, Belmont 1

Key players for Inter-Lakes on Sept. 12 were Jessalyn Brown (24 assists, 10 digs, 19 service points), Emma Wheeler (11 kills, 10 blocks, 13 digs), Jordan Durand (5 kills, 16 digs, 14 service points). For Belmont, Amber LeMay played strong game on defense.

Inter-Lakes served at a 97 percent clip, missing only three serves overall in the match.

“Great team effort by the Lakers with all 14 roster players contributing.” said Inter-Lakes’ Coach Randy Mattson.

Inter-Lakes is now 2-0; Belmont 0-3.
