GILFORD – The Golden Eagle picked up their eighth straight victory Thursday night by beating  Laconia 43-39.
The Gilford girls are now 8-2 on the season and Laconia fell to 4-5.
Gilford hit 14 of 22 foul shots in the fourth quarter to thwart a comeback attempt by the Sachems, who came back from  a 35-25 deficit with five minutes left in the game but couldn’t catch up by the buzzer.
Shelby Cole finished led the Golden Eagles with 12 points and Brooke Beaudet and Lauren Dean each had 10 points.
Hannah Dow led Laconia with 11 points.  Sophie George  has eight points while Becca Howe and Isabella Daly each has six.
Newfound moved to 10-2 on the season with a 56-30 victory over Stevens.
Savanna Bony  led the Bears with 18 points. Ashlee Dukette had 14 points, 15 rebounds, four assists and four blocks. Jasmine Peterson added 11 points and had six rebounds, five steals and five assists.
Wednesday night Franklin defeated Winnisquam 53-38 led by Lauren Marsh 26 points and Hannah Hicks 12 points
The Golden Tornadoes are now 3-8 for the season and Winnisquam is 1-11.
Boys’ hockey
John Stark-Hopkinton  beat Moultonborough-Inter-Lakes  7-2 Wednesday night to move to 8-1-1 on the season.
Moultonborough-Inter-Lakes, which is now 4-4-1 so far, got goals from Garrett McCarthy and  Alex Sorokin.
Boys’ basketball
Wednesday night Inter-Lakes ended Gilford’s five-game winning streak with a 53-51 win in a  game that went down to the final seconds.
Eli Swanson had 28 points for the Lakers and Davis Jollimore added 11.
Greg Madore had 17 points for Gilford and David Hart had 10.
A basket by  Gilford’s Jonathan Nelson cut the Lakers lead to 52-51 with less than three seconds left in the game. A deliberate foul sent Swanson to the line, where he dropped in the first try and then missed the second on purpose, putting the ball in  play which ran the clock out.
Both teams are now 6-3 on the season.
