GILFORD — Robert M. "Bob" Jett, 93, of Varney Point Road Left, Gilford, died early Friday morning, September 30, 2005, at the St. Francis Home in Laconia. He was born June 7, 1912 in Gary, Indiana, the son of the late George C. and Neenah (Maxon) Jett.

He was a graduate of Marquette University and Cornell University, earning a Bachelors Degree in Mechanical Engineering.

Bob would love to tell the story about how he met his future wife while both were students at Cornell. She was waiting tables to supplement her tuition and Bob would always sit at whatever table she was serving. It was the beginning of a 72-year love affair.

After graduation he worked at Jett & Stimpkee Co. of Milwaukee, Wis., which was founded by his father. He served as a draftsman, mechanical engineer and inventor. He then was employed by the Scott and Williams Company as tool designer for over 30 years, designing airplane parts during World War II and then knitting machinery after the war.

He was a resident of Gilford since 1944, living in the same house on Varney Point Road Left until recently moving to the Bishop Bradley Apartments, Laconia.

He enjoyed sailing and was a member of the Winnipesaukee Yacht Club. He was also a member of the Varney Point Association and the Gunstock Ski Club.

Bob was also part owner of Guernsey Cow Island at one time.

Bob was the loyal and devoted husband of 72 years to Elizabeth "Betty" (Mosher) Jett of Laconia; father of three children, twins Carole V. Ness of Anchorage, Alaska, and the late George M. Jett, who died in 1938, and Bruce M. Jett of Claremont; four grandchildren, Kathryn Walker Politzer of Reading, Penn., Lynda Walker Mitchell of Green, Ohio, Susan Walker Johnson of Marietta, Calif., and Stuart Robert Walker of Winchester, Calif.; eleven great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews, including Guy Teschmacher of Montpelier, Vt., who devoted much of his time and effort in helping Bob and Betty in the last few years.

Memorial services will be held on Sunday, October 2, 2005 at 4 p.m. in the Gilford Community Church, Potter Hill Road, Gilford, with the Rev. Michael C. Graham, pastor, assisted by Bishop Jeffrey Tidd of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, Laconia. Burial will be in McCoy Cemetery, Gilford.
