Richard J. Lockwood, 66
LACONIA — Richard "Dick" J. Lockwood, 66, of Strafford Street died July 1, 2015, at Lakes Region General Hospital as a result of amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, ALS. His beloved wife was by his side.
Richard was born Feb. 1, 1949, in Derry, son of the late John W. and Ruth (Bailey) Lockwood.
His family moved to Wrentham, Mass., when he was age 7, where he lived until entering the Air Force.
During the Vietnam War, he was stationed at the Strategic Air Command at Offutt Air Force Base, Neb. Upon discharge he was a computer consultant and had his own radio talk show, "World of Computers," on Boston's AM1330 WDLW. In the 1990s he switched careers to the transportation industry and was an over-the-road driver and a driver trainer for many years with Gainey Transportation, Grand Rapids, Mich. Preceding retirement he moved to Laconia and when he retired he had the perfect outlet for his love of skiing by becoming a ski instructor at Gunstock Mountain Resort.
He liked nothing better than talking and visiting with his friends and family, supporting the Muskrats, Laconia's New England Collegiate Baseball League team, and participating in fun community activities.
Dick is survived by his wife of 21 years, Diane (Baker) Lockwood; a son, Charles Lockwood and his wife Ashley of Schererville, Ind.; four daughters, Suzanne Post and her husband Josh of Byron Center, Mich., Anne Mirza and her husband Michael of Chicago, Hilary Grubbs of Manchester and Liz Grubbs of Bedford; a stepmother, Gail Lockwood of Mattapoisett, Mass.; four brothers, Dana Lockwood and his wife Lisa of Woodland, Utah, Darrell Lockwood and his wife Maryanne of Goffstown, Dirk Lockwood and his wife Beverly of Kentwood, Mich., and Kurt Lockwood of Mattapoisett, Mass.; two granddaughters, Brynn Lockwood and Kensley Post; two nephews, Christopher and Andrew; four nieces, Nicole, Shannon, Alyssa and Jessica.
He was predeceased by his parents.
A memorial service will be Aug. 15, 2015, at 11 a.m. at the Congregational Church of Laconia, 18 Veterans Square. Interment will be Aug. 14, 2015, at 3 p.m. at the New Hampshire State Veterans Cemetery, 110 Daniel Webster Highway, Boscawen.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Central New Hampshire VNA & Hospice, 780 North Main St., Laconia NH 03246, or the Congregational Church of Laconia - Dorcas Fund, 18 Veterans Square, Laconia, NH 03246.
