Richard "Rick" Fogg, 70, passed away on March 23, 2025, surrounded by his loving wife, his four children, and his devoted sister-in-law. Born on Oct. 17, 1954, in Sanford, Maine, Rick’s life was defined by his deep faith, his generous spirit, and the simple joy he found in family.
After serving proudly as an airplane mechanic in the U.S. Air Force and working in lumber sales where he honed his deep knowledge of carpentry and woodworking, Rick’s passion for others led him to care for the homeless as a case manager at the Boston Rescue Mission. He wanted others to know that they were seen, valued and loved. After leaving the mission, Rick returned to carpentry and woodworking. Rick’s love of art and drawing continued throughout his lifetime.
Rick was a member of the Befree Alton Community Church for many years. He also was a member of the Alton Rotary Club and president 2011-12.
Rick’s greatest happiness came from his family. Spending time with his wife, children and grandchildren was one of the most cherished times in his life. He believed that true fulfillment came in his belief in God, evidenced by care for others. He taught us that a life of service is the most rewarding life of all.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 25 years, Melissa; his children, Jeremy, Lindsey, Joe and Ashley; his nine granddaughters; his mother, Shirley; his brothers, Gary and Keith; along with many nieces, nephews and dear friends.
He is predeceased by his father, George Fogg, and sister, Denice Svenson.
A celebration of Rick's life will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, May 31, at the Alton American Legion, Post 72. Urn interment will be private at New Riverside Cemetery in Alton. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Tunnel to Towers (T2T.org) in his memory.
Rick will be deeply missed, but the legacy of his generosity and the values he instilled in his family will live on in all of us.
