Nathan J. Babcock, 18

GILFORD — Nathan J. Babcock, 18, of 41 Haywagon Road, died peacefully at his home on Wednesday, September 28, 2005, with his family surrounding him, after a long battle with cancer. Nathan was born July 15, 1987 in Laconia, the son of James M. and Virginia (Upton) Babcock.

Nathan lived in Gilford all of his life. He was a June, 2005 graduate of Gilford High School. He performed in the productions of Man of La’Mancha, Company, Rags, and A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum, and was also a member of the technical production crew.

In 2001 he was Vice President of his class. He was a member of the Interact Club, the German Club and participated in the GAPP (German American Partnership Program).

In 2002 and 2003, he was lead-in host for the New Hampshire Drama Festival. He was selected to attend the New Hampshire Barber Shop Festival in 2002 and from 2001-2002 he was a member of the Gilford High School Symphonic Band, the Marching Band and the Pep-Band. Nathan was the Freshmen Seminar speaker for two years as well as the 8th Grade transition program speaker.

Nathan was a member of the Gilford High School soccer, basketball and track teams. In 2002, he received the Soccer Scholar Athlete Award and the Basketball Scholar Athlete Award and was selected to the Lakes Region Basketball All Tourney First Team.

In 2003, he was selected the Concord Monitor Soccer Player of the Week. Nathan broke the Gilford High School javelin record in 2003 and broke his own record in 2004. In 2003, he placed first in the Class M Championship and in 2004, he placed 2nd in the New Hampshire Meet of Champions and 10th at the New

England Track and Field Championships. He also was selected to the Lakes Region All-Star Team.

Nathan was very involved with his community and volunteered at the Special Olympics Track and Field Championship, the Senior Games; the Aaron Francouer Memorial Basketball Tournament; was a referee for the Gilford Youth Basketball League and for the Bob Dearborn 3-on-3 Basketball Tournament and a coach for

the Gilford Youth Soccer Clinic.

Nathan was a communicant of St. Joseph Church where he was an altar server. He also was involved with the

Church’s Elderly Visitor Program.

Nathan is survived by his parents, James and Virginia Babcock of Gilford; a sister, Mollie K. Babcock, of Gilford; a brother, Zachary J. Babcock, of Gilford; his grandparents, John and Marlee Babcock of Wilmington,

Delaware and Richard and Mary Upton of Harrisville; several aunts and uncles, John and Elizabeth Babcock of

New Durham, Elizabeth Bredin of New Castle, Delaware, Katherine Upton of Concord, Margaret and Robert Davieau of Keene, and Dan and Virginia Upton of McMinnville, Oregon; and five cousins.

Calling hours will be held on Saturday, October 1, 2005 from 2:00-4:00 p.m. and 6:00-8:00 p.m. in the Carriage House of the Wilkinson-Beane Funeral Home, 164 Pleasant Street, Laconia.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Joseph Church, 30 Church Street Laconia, on Sunday, October 2, 2005 at 2:00 p.m. by Rev. Gary Kosmowski, Pastor of the Church.
