CENTER HARBOR — Matthew C. Richardson, 41, passed away unexpectedly on Aug. 1, 2025, at his home. He was born Jan. 24, 1984. He was a graduate of Inter-Lakes High School.
He grew up in the home of his great-grandparents, Lewis and Elsie Eastman, with his parents, Kent and Mary (Keniston) Richardson, and his sister Katie (Brady) Pelczar. He worked in restaurants in his youth, and did tree work as an adult. He lent a helping hand to many, including when his Dad went through multiple surgeries.
Matt suffered some tragic injuries that were life-altering. Through it all, his passion and curiosity for the natural world remained strong. It was common to find Matt brewing tea from chaga he’d foraged, boiling down birch syrup from sap he had collected, or photographing a brilliant sunset.
Matt had a deep connection to the family home and his presence will live on where he loved it most.
He was predeceased by grandparents Robert and Nellie (Eastman) Richardson and Elmer and June (Brown) Keniston, and a cousin, Michael Hare. He leaves behind aunts Roberta (Lew) Hare, Shirin (predeceased Peter) Platt, Vicki Bollig and Stacy (Bruce) Stevens, along with numerous cousins.
The family will hold a celebration of life at a later date. For now, we ask you to help those that are struggling and be kind to those who fall behind.
