Lawrence F. Hill, 85

Lawrence F. Hill, 85

FRANKLIN — With great sadness we announce the passing of Lawrence ("Larry," "Lornie," "Curly") Frederick Hill on Oct. 19.

Lawrence was born on June 23, 1938, to Thomas and Edith Hill in Newcastle, New Brunswick, Canada. A young Lawrence loved to ice skate on the frozen Miramichi River and worked shoveling snow for the railroad.

In 1960, he moved to New Jersey to be a farmhand. This led him to a job traveling with the carnival. While controlling the octopus ride in Plymouth, New Hampshire, he met his loving wife of 54 years, Marie Wright. There they raised two children. His hobbies included collecting hats, scrap metal and gardening. Lawrence coached his son's baseball teams. He was a hard worker, including many years at the Draper Plant Beebe River, then at Ireland Lumber Mill along with several other side jobs.

In 2011, the couple moved to a lovely home in Franklin. Some of Lawrence’s retirement hobbies included bird watching, taking care of his large yard, and attending his grandchildren's sporting events. He developed a love for traveling to Las Vegas to see his daughter and daughter-in-law.

Lawrence’s big smile, humor and iconic greetings will be missed by all.

In addition of his parents, Lawrence was predeceased by his siblings Pauline Braun, Boyd Hill, Alfred Hill, June Martin of New Brunswick, Canada; brothers-in-law William Wright, David Wright and sister-in-law Shirley Cutter.

He is survived by his wife, Marie; his two children, Kristina (Berni) Gorcsi-Hill of Las Vegas, Nevada, and Thomas (Deborah) Hill of Concord; his two grandsons, Kyle and Ethan Hill of Concord, and his granddaughter Leah Hill and her fiancé Nick Lacourse of Henniker; his sister Doris Young of New Brunswick, Canada; in-laws Herman (Louise) Wright, Wendy Wright, Michael Wright (Marilyn Dotsie), Jean (Doug) Bishop, Robert (Cindy) Wright, Joan Wright, Mary Wright and Richard Cutter; several nieces and nephews in Canada and New England; along with the many friends he has made over his 85 years of life.

Calling hours will be held at the Dupuis Funeral Home, 11 Hill Ave. in Ashland on Monday, Oct. 23, from 6 to 8 p.m. A graveside service will be held on Tuesday, Oct. 24, at 11 a.m. at Blair Cemetery, Blair Road in Campton.
