Jennifer Lynne Varnum, 81, passed away peacefully on Feb. 12, 2026, in Florida, surrounded by love.

Jennifer created a warm, welcoming home in Barnstead, later moving to Gilford, while spending winters in Man O’ War Cay, Bahamas — a place that brought her immense joy and where she formed deep, lasting friendships.

She married the love of her life, Ted Varnum, on May 2, 1964. Together, they built a life centered on family, laughter, hard work, and community.

A proud and accomplished businesswoman, Jennifer co-founded Laconia Pet Center with Ted, growing it into a thriving, enduring success. They also launched several other ventures, including Subs 2 Go, Paugus Variety, and Second Best — a secondhand shop that reflected her lifelong passion for thrifting, bargains, and giving items new life.

That love came full circle with Jennifer’s Attic, a shop fueled by her cherished summer auctions, where she delighted in uncovering treasures to share with others.

Jennifer possessed a wonderful sense of humor and was a true friend to many. She adored puzzles, auctions, thrift stores, and a perfect cup of Earl Grey or Lady Grey tea. An avid player of Rummikub, Mexican Train, and card games, she approached every match with fierce strategy and competitive spirit — though her infectious laughter always made game nights lively and unforgettable.

She especially cherished hosting holidays for friends on Man O’ War Cay, opening her home with generosity, joy, and abundant laughter.

Above all, Jennifer was devoted to her family. She took great pride in her children — Bethany Stockman and her husband Rodney, and Brett Varnum and his wife Susan — and treasured the lives they built. She was beyond proud of her grandchildren: Wyatt Stockman and his girlfriend Jess, Travis Stockman, Brooke Varnum, and Gillian Varnum.

Jennifer will be remembered for her warmth, humor, loyalty, and entrepreneurial spirit. She had a rare gift for creating community — through her businesses, her home, or around a game table — and made everyone feel truly welcome.

The family is deeply grateful for the outpouring of love and support. Details regarding services will be shared at a later date.
