LACONIA — Jean L. Coffin, 87, passed away peacefully on March 22, 2026, in Wolfeboro.
She is predeceased by her father, Roland Coffin; her mother, Louise Coffin; and her sister, Gloria Olufs. Left to cherish her memory are her beloved daughter, Shannon Coffin of Los Angeles, California; and sister, Rebecca Forbes of Merrimack; as well as nieces, nephews, cousins and all of their children.
Jean was a devoted employee of New England Bell Telephone Company for many years, and was active in her community. She looked forward to participating in "Christmas Village," town parades and festivals, and the schools’ football games. She had a great love of theater and dance which she passed down to her daughter through dance lessons and community plays. Her passion for all animals had her volunteering at New Hampshire Humane Society through the years, and she was always known to have furry family members at home. She had a soft spot for German shepherds, and though their size and commanding presence made them good protectors, with her they were lap dogs, literally curled up on her lap.
She had a big heart, caring for any being who had no one else to care for them, whether it was animals or people. The young people she took responsibility for were shown how to do many of the things that they would need as adults, such as cooking, managing a bank account, etc., and all the while were given support to become their own unique individuals. She was never alone for very long and her home was always filled with caring.
A wonderful tribute to Jean would be a donation in her name to the New Hampshire Humane Society, but she would be happier still if you adopted a pet in her memory.
