Ines “Nessy” Degnan, 94, of Lake Mary, Florida, passed away on Nov. 1.
Nessy was the wife of the late Dr. Edward “Jim” James Degnan. She is survived by Edward (Barb) Degnan of Lake Mary, Florida, Dr. Michael (Mai) Degnan of Haines City, Florida, Ines (Joseph) Golsan of Bryan, Texas, and Mary (Lee) Rogers of Lake Mary, Florida; 14 grandchildren and 14 (with one more on the way) great-grandchildren.
Nessy was born in New Haven, Connecticut, on May 28, 1929, daughter of the late Vincent P. and Ultima Robinson Dooley. She was predeceased by her sisters Carol Clark, Jean Dooley, Constance “Connie” Roderick and brothers Fenton, Richard “Dick” and Lawrence “Larry” Dooley. She was a graduate of Kenwood Academy of the Sacred Heart, Albany, New York. She attended many colleges post-graduation and, at the one that suited her best, she met her husband, Jim Degnan.
Nessy devoted her life to her husband, children, grandchildren and eventually great-grandchildren. While raising a family, she was a resident of Delmar, New York; Seminole, Florida; and Port Orange, Florida. While in New York she served in alumni organizations, board of elections and local blood banks. In Seminole, she began to volunteer by starting the Bay Pines Hospice group, which led to over 40 years of volunteering in multiple facets of the organization. Based on her ability to engage individuals in conversation, she culminated her work at hospice as one of the group leaders for bereavement groups. She was an avid reader, keen golfer and great cook.
A funeral mass will be celebrated on Monday, Nov. 6, at 2 p.m. celebrated at Annunciation Catholic Church, 1020 Montgomery Road, Altamonte Springs, Florida.
Interment will be in Florida National Cemetery, Bushnell.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to Hospice of Volusia/Flagler, 3800 Woodbriar Trail, Port Orange, FL 32129.
