George S. Savramis, 99

 

MEREDITH — George S. Savramis, 99, of Meredith passed away at home on Oct. 12, 2016, with his wife at his bedside.

Born in Somerworth on March 26, 1917, George was the son of Steven George and Annie (Banos) Savramis.

The family moved to Portsmouth in 1919. George attended the local schools and graduated from Portsmouth High School in the class of 1936.

Prior to World War II, he was employed at Paul's Market as a sales clerk. In September of 1941, he was inducted into the Army. He was trained in communications and was stationed in New York City. After D-Day 1944, he was transferred to the Army Air Corps in Millville, New Jersey, and was discharged in December 1945.

On Aug. 12, 1945, he married Vasilia (Lee) Panages in Portland Maine. After his discharge from the service, they lived in Portsmouth for 50 years.

George attended McIntosh College and worked as a sales executive at Kidder Press in Dover. He retired in January 1978.

After Lee retired from teaching, they traveled the U.S., Europe and Canada.

They moved from Portsmouth to Laconia in 2000 to be closer to their daughter, Dyan Driscoll, and her family.

George was a member of the Kidder Press Old Timers Club, a 60-plus years' member of the Masons of St. Andrews Lodge #56 Portsmouth; The Hellenic Square & Compass Club, Boston, Massachusetts; American Legion, Post No. 6, Portsmouth; and the Taxiarchai Church of Laconia.

He is survived by his wife of 71 years, Lee, and three children: Arian Sarris of Oregon, Stephen Savramis and his wife Polly-Jo of West Virginia; their daughter Lydia and her husband Tim Gallagher of Maryland; and Dyan Driscoll and her husband, Joseph H. Driscoll III of Weirs Beach NH; also their children – Joseph H. Driscoll IV and his wife, Allison Schwartz-Driscoll of Laconia, and Kate Driscoll and her fiancé Matt Witulski of Plaistow. Also a sister, Effie Zymaris and her husband, Mike, of North Andover, Massachusetts; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

A funeral service will be held on Monday, Oct. 17, at 11 a.m., in the Taxiarchai Greek Orthodox Church, 811 N. Main St. Laconia. Burial will follow on Monday at 1:30 p.m. in the New Hampshire State Veterans Cemetery in Boscawen.
