BEVERLY, Mass. — Faith Fairman Conrad, recently of Beverly, Massachusetts and Jolly Island, Gilford, NH, died Saturday, April 29 at the Renaissance Garden facility in Brooksby Village, Peabody, Mass. She was 75 years old.

She was born January 22, 1931 in Springfield, Ma., the eldest of six children born to George W. and Katharine (Ingalls) Fairman. She graduated from Melrose High School in 1948 and the University of Massachusetts, Amherst, Ma., in 1952, and received her Master’s Degree in Speech and Language Pathology from Emerson College, Boston in the late 1960s.

Mrs. Conrad served as a speech/language for the Hamilton-Wenham School District for thirty-six years and until recently, also maintained a private practice. She pioneered many techniques used routinely today to teach multiple-handicapped children to speak and/or communicate. Faith was dedicated to her patients and their families. In 1975 The Massachusetts Speech and Hearing Association presented her with an award for “outstanding service and dedication to her profession.” In 1981 she was awarded the Who’s Who of American Women” Award by the Marquis Who’s Who Publication Board.

Next to her family and her work, her greatest love was Jolly Island on Lake Winnipesaukee where she summered all her life. She was an excellent amateur photographer and leaves her friends and family with many carefully mounted and bound memories.

Mrs. Conrad is survived by her husband of more than thirty years, Frank H. Conrad of Brooksby Village, Peabody, Ma., and Gilford NH, her mother, Katharine Fairman of Alton and Gilford, NH, two sons and daughters-in-law, David R. and Marilyn Slade of Ridgewood, NJ and Alton, NH, and Ronald I. and Gail Slade of Andover, Ma., three stepchildren: Frank H. Conrad, Jr. of Danvers, Ma., Judith Burkett of Peabody, Ma., and Jennifer Hale, of Salisbury, Ma., seven grandchildren and seven step-grandchildren, two brothers: J. Raymond Fairman of Granby CT. and Meredith, NH, Charles G. Fairman of Bedford, and Gilford, NH, three sisters: Rosalee F. Jones of Byfield, MA, Judith F. Rhome of Sudbury Ma., and Katharine F. Eaton of Wolfeboro, NH, and many nieces and nephews, including Alec O’Meara of Alton, NH, grand nieces and nephews, and one great-grandnephew. She was pre-deceased by her daughter, Heidi Slade Costigan Westoven, in 1987, and her father, George W. Fairman, in 2000.

A memorial service will be held Thursday, May 4 at St. Peters Episcopal Church in Beverly. Burial will be private at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Hamilton-Wenham School District, 775 Bay Road, Hamilton, MA 01982
