MEREDITH — David Harry Boynton, 76, of Meredith, passed away Dec. 19, 2025, following a brief period of failing health.
David was born on April 12, 1949, at Speare Memorial Hospital, Plymouth, to Nathaniel and Leona (Shaw) Boynton. He grew up in New Hampton, graduating from Newfound Memorial High School. After attending Keene State College, David served as a VISTA volunteer, working with impoverished communities at the Kansas City Regional Office. He went on to work in production control and purchasing at Allen-Rogers Corporation, Laconia, for 20+ years.
David was a member of the Trinity Methodist Church in Weirs Beach. He was active in the Squam Lake Grange as well as the New Hampshire State Grange. During his time with the Grange, David was a grange deputy and then a general deputy. David took charge of the Dictionary Project for the entire New Hampshire State Grange, keeping very detailed records and running a staff of many volunteers for seven years until illness forced him to hand over the reins.
David will be remembered for his dry wit, humor, and extensive knowledge. He had an avid interest in politics and history, and when given the chance, he would discuss both exhaustively. During retirement genealogy research became his primary hobby, occupying many of his hours
He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Jean (Bartlett) Boynton; sons Christopher Boynton and Andrew Boynton (wife Katharine); and his beloved grandson Brennan. He is also survived by a brother and sister, as well as many cousins, nieces and nephews.
Calling hours and a celebration of life will be held from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 31, at the Mayhew Funeral Home, 204 Daniel Webster Hwy.
In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made in his memory to the New Hampshire Dictionary Project, c/o Hannah West, 3 Depot Road, Chichester, NH 03258, or the Lakes Region Visiting Nurse Association, 186 Waukewan Road, Meredith, NH 03253.
