Clifford A. Ellis, 74

Clifford Allen Ellis, 74, of North Berwick, Maine, passed away peacefully on Aug. 28, 2026, surrounded by his family.

Clifford was born on Dec. 11, 1951, in Laconia, to George Ellis Sr. and Julia (Johnson) Ellis. He was the youngest of seven children and grew up tending the family farm, which instilled a passion for the great outdoors. With a deep admiration for nature and an animal lover at heart, Clifford found animals seemed to adopt him, sensing his gentle spirit.

He also had a lifelong love of learning. In his quiet time, he enjoyed reading history, encyclopedias, and had a particular interest in presidential history, where he spent time writing about them and the facts surrounding them.

Clifford also enjoyed working with his hands. At one point, he owned his own painting business, Early Bird Painters, demonstrating his craftsmanship and uncompromising standards.

Clifford loved his vegetable gardens and took pride in growing and sharing what he harvested. He regularly donated vegetables to The First County Food Pantry. In conjunction with his love of gardening, Clifford graduated with honors from culinary arts school and delighted in cooking, especially for family reunions.

He was a carefree person who was never concerned with material possessions. Clifford understood that life was about much more than the things we own, a genuinely selfless man who would gladly lend a hand whenever someone needed it, expecting nothing in return. He loved life, appreciated the simple things, and always had a kind word to share. His generosity and willingness to help others were among the many qualities that made him so special. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him.

Clifford was predeceased by his parents, George Ellis Sr. and Julia (Johnson) Ellis; and his brothers, Ashley and Stewart Ellis. He is survived by his brothers, Dave Ellis and his wife Mary Kay of Lyman, Maine, Robert Ellis and his wife Louise of Sanbornton, George Ellis and his wife Bonnie of Pittsburg; his sister-in-law Sharon Ellis of Westport, Massachusetts; and his sister, Krista Argiropolis and her husband John of Alton. He also leaves behind many beloved nieces, nephews and friends.

A service of remembrance will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, Sept. 11, at Bibber Memorial at Autumn Green, 47 Oak St., Alfred, Maine.

In lieu of flowers the family asks that donations be made to The First County Food Pantry, 5 Swetts Bridge Road, Alfred, ME 04002.
